You're Beautiful - James Blunt (OfficiaL Music Video)

My daughter Nicole was 2 when she'd have me play this song repeatedly whenever we were in the car. It was a major hit around the world too. Brilliant!

The Troggs - With A Girl Like You (1966) (UK #1, US #29)

Paint It Black

This is one of my favorite Stones' song (it reached # 1 both in US and UK in 1966) but then I am biased as the song was the theme for the tv drama series which ran from 1987 to 1990 (3 seasons), Nam: Tour of Duty starring Terence Knox (Sgt. "Zeke") and Stephen Caffrey (Lt. Goldman).

I'm Alive (UK #1, 1965)

The Hollies are an English pop band from Manchester formed in the early 1960s. Known for their distinctive vocal harmony style (which influenced many other groups) they became one of the leading British bands of the era, and they enjoyed considerable popularity in many other countries (including Australia) although they did not achieve major US chart success until the early 1970s. Like The Rolling Stones and Steeleye Span, they are also notable as one of the few British pop bands of the Sixties that has never off icially broken up and which continues to record and perform to the present. American Pie (US #1, 1972)

"American Pie" is a folk rock song by singer-songwriter Don McLean.
Recorded and released on the American Pie album in 1971, the single was a number-one U.S. hit for four weeks in 1972. A re-release in 1991 did not chart in the U.S., but reached number 12 in the UK. The song is an abstract story surrounding "The Day the Music Died" -- the 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper (Giles Perry Richardson, Jr.). The importance of "American Pie" to America's musical and cultural heritage was recognized by the Songs of the Century education project which listed the song as the number five song of the twentieth century.

Diana (US #1, 1957)

"Diana" is a song written and made famous by Paul Anka in 1957. It was inspired by a high school friend named Diana Ayoub. The original Paul Anka 1957 recording reached #1 and has reportedly sold over 9 million copies.

Sukiyaki (US #1, 1963)

Kyu Sakamoto (坂本 九 Sakamoto Kyū?, born Hisashi Oshima (大島九 Ōshima Hisashi?), December 10, 1941 - August 12, 1985) was a Japanese singer and actor.

On August 12, 1985, Kyu Sakamoto died in the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123. Before the doomed aircraft hit the ground, he managed to write a farewell note to his wife, Yukiko Kashiwagi. Married in 1971, they had two daughters, Hanako and Maiko. [wikipedia]

Everlasting Love by Love Affair (UK #1, 1968)

"Everlasting Love" is a song written by Buzz Cason and Mac Gayden. The song was first a hit for soul singer Robert Knight in 1967. It was also recorded by several other artists in the years since. The song was a Top 10 hit for Carl Carlton in 1974, a Top 40 hit for Rex Smith and Rachel Sweet in 1981, a Top 10 Album rock song for U2 in 1989, and a Top 10 hit for Gloria Estefan in 1995. The song was also recorded by artists such as Sandra Cretu, Scooter, and English pop band Love Affair.

Love Affair's single reached number-one in the UK Singles Chart on 31 January 1968.

I also like their # 9 hit "Bringing on Back the Good Times".

Butterfly Kisses (US AC #1, 1997)

This was gospel singer Bob Carlisle's, only number one hit and I read somewhere when it first hit the airwaves that people were calling up radio stations in US asking about the song and some even pulled over by the road to listen and yeah cried.

What's a butterfly kiss you ask? "A butterfly kiss happens when you get your eyelashes up against some else's bare skin, so close that when you blink, your eyelashes caress the other person's skin." Tickles too.

The song made my eyes well up too when I heard it back in '97 mainly coz I felt we were never going to have a child of our own. And now that we have our own baby girl the song is ever more relevant! I chanced upon Cliff Richard's (another fave singer of mine) version today and it is cool. Cliffy sings it like he is a super daddy. Bet he would make a great dad!

Butterfly Kisses has gone on and become a favorite at weddings. Apparently the father of the bride would either sing it or wing it. Or at least dance with their daughter to it!

Bob Carlisle Cliff's version

"Hugs in the morning and Butterfly Kisses at night"

Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) UK #1, 1970

The 'original' Edison Lighthouse was Tony Burrows (lead vocalist), Stuart Edwards (lead guitar), David Taylor (bass guitar), George Weyman (drums) and Ray Dorey (guitar). The group's lone Top 40 hit "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" (1970) was one of four near contemporaneous UK Singles Chart Top Ten hit singles by Burrows under different names, the others being White Plains' "My Baby Loves Lovin'", The Pipkins' "Gimme Dat Ding", and Brotherhood of Man's "United We Stand". Burrows was also lead vocalist on the single "Beach Baby" (1974) for another studio only group, The First Class.

I'll Never Fall in Love Again (UK #1, 1969)

Roberta Lee Streeter (born July 27, 1944, Chickasaw County, Mississippi), professionally known as Bobbie Gentry, is an American singer-songwriter.

True (UK #1, 1983)

Spandau Ballet are a popular British band famous in the 1980s. Initially inspired by the New Romantic fashion, they quickly steered in to a mixture of funk, jazz, soul and synthpop, then eventually mellowed into a mainstream pop act. They continued to be tagged New Romantics, though, well into the mid '80s, long after that genre had waned, and their own style had long since changed.

Bohemian Rhapsody (UK # 1, 1975)

With over 23 million hits need I say more?

Wikipedia; Queen were an English rock band formed in 1970 in London by guitarist Brian May, lead vocalist Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor, with bassist John Deacon completing the lineup the following year.

The band is noted for their musical diversity, multi-layered arrangements, vocal harmonies, and incorporation of audience participation into their live performances. Their 1985 Live Aid performance was voted the best live rock performance of all time in an industry poll.

Queen enjoyed success in the UK in the early 1970s with the albums Queen and Queen II, but it was with the release of Sheer Heart Attack in 1974 and A Night at the Opera the following year that the band gained international success. They have released fifteen studio albums, five live albums, and numerous compilation albums. Eighteen of these have reached number one on charts around the world.

Following Mercury's death in 1991 and Deacon's retirement in 1997, May and Taylor have performed infrequently under the Queen name. Since 2004 they have been collaborating with Paul Rodgers, under the moniker Queen + Paul Rodgers.

I Should Have Known Better (UK # 1, 1984)

Diamond is best known for his three Top 5 hits - "I Won't Let You Down" (1982) as the lead singer in the trio Ph.D., with Tony Hymas and Simon Phillips; his solo performance, "I Should Have Known Better". The latter song was a United Kingdom number one in 1984.
And of course the theme song from Boon, "Hi Ho Silver" which reached Number 5 in the UK charts in 1986. His voice has often been used for other people's songs, especially charity songs such as "Sailing" with Rock Against Repatriation, "You'll Never Walk Alone" with The Crowd and "Let It Be" with Ferry Aid.

Over the past thirty years he has gone from lead singer of his own bands, to solo studio artist, to live performer and even writing for other artists. One of the hardest working musicians of our time.

This Guy's in Love with You (US # 1, 1968)

Another song I never grow tired of. "This Guy's in Love with You" is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and recorded by Herb Alpert. Although known primarily for his trumpet playing as the leader of the Tijuana Brass, Alpert sang lead vocals on this solo recording, as the song's range is narrow enough to accommodate Alpert's vocal skills.

You see this guy this guy's in love with you
Yes, I'm in love who looks at you the way I do
when you smile
I can tell we know each other very well
how can I show you
I'm glad I got to know you, 'cause:

I've heard some talk they say you think I'm fine
Yes, I'm in love and what I'd do to make you mine,
tell me now, is it so?
Don't let me be the last to know.
My hands are shaking don't let my heart keep breaking, 'cause
I need your love I want your love
say you're in love in love with this guy,
if not I'll just die

Sailing (UK # 1, 1975)
