Alphaville - Forever Young (Official Video)

One of my all time faves - Forever Young. I find it odd that the song didn't even make the US Top 40. However it has become a pop culture standard. It has been performed by numerous musical groups and appeared in television series, movies, and advertisements.

Dollar - Give Me Back My Heart (Promo Video)

The 80s was a fantastic decade. I was totally immersed in the whole New Wave scene. Here is Dollar, a duo who met as 17 year olds during an audition. Yeah they are eye candy but this song is one of my faves - the other is You Made Me Love You which I could not locate online.

E.L.O (Electric Light Orchestra) All Over The World

Another 70s band I love - Electric Light Orchestra.

Just Once (US #17, 1981)

I love this song and also the movie "The Last American Virgin" . It was 1982 and a few of us watched it on VHS tape. In fact there were so many cool songs in that one show like Oh No, Open Arms, That's the Way (I Like it), Keep on Loving You and It Ain't Easy Coming Down.

Kansas (1988)

Kansas is an American progressive rock band which became a popular arena rock group in the 1970s, with hit singles such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind". They have remained a classic rock radio staple and a popular touring act in North America and Europe.

Here is one of my favorite, Stand Beside Me ...

Give Me Your Heart Tonight

Shakin' Stevens, also known as "Shaky" (born Michael Barrett, 4 March 1948) is a platinum selling Welsh rock and roll singer and songwriter, who has the distinction of being the top selling male UK singles artist of the 1980s. His recording and performing career began in the late 1960s, although it was not until 1980 that he saw commercial success in his native land. In the UK alone, Stevens has charted no fewer than 33 top 40 hit singles in the sales charts, making him one of the most charted (and biggest selling) acts of all-time.

Hold Me Now

In 1987, he won his second Eurovision and with his self-penned song "Hold Me Now", he represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgium. The song won the contest and again, Logan had a major European hit with the song and reached No.2 in the UK (although it outsold "What's Another Year"). Keen to continue this success, Logan released a cover of the 10cc song "I'm Not In Love", produced by Paul Hardcastle as a follow-up, and an album. Both single and album made the UK charts but were not significant enough to sustain a continued chart career

The Search is Over

Survivor is an American rock band formed in 1978. The band achieved its greatest success in the 1980s with its pop-rock sound, which garnered many charting singles, especially in the United States. The band is best known for its 1982 hit "Eye of the Tiger", the theme song for the motion picture Rocky III (US #1). Singles like "Burning Heart" (US #2), "The Search Is Over" (#4 US), "High on You" (#8 US) and "I Can't Hold Back (US #13) continued to chart in the mid-1980s.

Don't Dream It's Over (US #2, 1986)

Crowded House is a rock group formed in Melbourne, Australia and led by New Zealand musician and singer-songwriter Neil Finn. Finn is widely recognised as the primary songwriter and creative direction of the band, having led it through several incarnations, drawing members from New Zealand (himself, Tim Finn and Eddie Rayner), Australia (Paul Hester, Nick Seymour, Peter Jones and Craig Hooper) and the United States (Mark Hart, Mitchell Froom, and Matt Sherrod).

"Don't Dream It's Over" reached number 27 in the UK, number 8 in Australia, number 6 in Norway, number 2 in the US, and number 1 in Canada. The chart-topping Canadian performance makes "Don't Dream It's Over" the only number one single by Crowded House in any country.

The music video for the song earned the band the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist in 1987. After the band's demise in 1996 the song re-entered the UK charts and climbed to number 25, two positions higher than its original peak in 1987.

True (UK #1, 1983)

Spandau Ballet are a popular British band famous in the 1980s. Initially inspired by the New Romantic fashion, they quickly steered in to a mixture of funk, jazz, soul and synthpop, then eventually mellowed into a mainstream pop act. They continued to be tagged New Romantics, though, well into the mid '80s, long after that genre had waned, and their own style had long since changed.

Eye in the Sky (US #3, 1982)

I loved this song the first time I heard it. I had not heard of The Alan Parsons Project before this but this song rocks. And after 26 years it is still a favorite with many worldwide. The song hit #3 on the Billboard charts in the US.

The track is best remembered for its use by the Chicago Bulls to introduce its starting lineup (including Michael Jordan) during its championship years of the 1990s. German football club Eintracht Frankfurt also used the song for player introductions.

Open Arms (1982)

Journey is an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1973. The band has gone through several phases since its inception by former members of Santana. The band's greatest commercial success came in the late 1970s through the early 1980s with a series of power ballads and songs such as "Don't Stop Believin'", "Any Way You Want It", "Faithfully", "Open Arms", "Separate Ways", and "Wheel in the Sky".
Here's one of their best ballads Open Arms, which hit #2 on the US Hot 100 in 1982.

Lead vocalist Steve Perry's departure was a big blow to fans but in 2007 they found a gem on You Tube - a Filipino chap named Arnel Pineda. Despite his kick-ass vocals there was a flurry of racist fans (in the minority I'd think) that couldn't stomach seeing a non-white as lead vocals.

You Can Do Magic (1982)

America is an English-American folk rock band, originally composed of members Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and Dan Peek. The three members were barely past their teenage years when they became an overnight musical sensation in 1972. They reached a peak in popularity in the early to mid 1970s and early 1980s. Some of the band's best known songs are "A Horse with No Name", "Sister Golden Hair" (both of which reached Number 1), "Ventura Highway", and "Tin Man".
Although their music was frequently derided by critics, from a commercial standpoint the band's singles and albums were exceptionally successful. They were popular enough to attract the services of famed Beatles producer George Martin for a run of seven albums. The band survived the loss of one of its original members near the peak of its success only to see Beckley and Bunnell return the act to the top of charts as a duo with "You Can Do Magic" in 1982. Touring for well over three decades, America maintains a following and performs over 100 shows per year. On January 16, 2007, America released Here & Now, the band's first major label studio album in over twenty years.

Walking In The Rain (UK # 7, 1983)

This is not a well known band, at least not in this part of the world. I like this band mostly coz of the trumpets. The other song I dig is " Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White".

I Should Have Known Better (UK # 1, 1984)

Diamond is best known for his three Top 5 hits - "I Won't Let You Down" (1982) as the lead singer in the trio Ph.D., with Tony Hymas and Simon Phillips; his solo performance, "I Should Have Known Better". The latter song was a United Kingdom number one in 1984.
And of course the theme song from Boon, "Hi Ho Silver" which reached Number 5 in the UK charts in 1986. His voice has often been used for other people's songs, especially charity songs such as "Sailing" with Rock Against Repatriation, "You'll Never Walk Alone" with The Crowd and "Let It Be" with Ferry Aid.

Over the past thirty years he has gone from lead singer of his own bands, to solo studio artist, to live performer and even writing for other artists. One of the hardest working musicians of our time.

I Was Born To Love You

Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara; 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a Zanzibar-born British musician, best known as the lead singer and co-founder of the rock band Queen (inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001).

What a voice! What a talent! RIP Freddie!

(Feels Like) Heaven

Fiction Factory were a British band from Perth, Scotland, formed in the mid-1980s. They had two hits in the UK Singles Chart, reaching number 6 in 1984 with "(Feels Like) Heaven". It was also a No. 1 in Switzerland.

Follow up single "Ghost of Love" reached number 64 in the UK the same year. The band released an album Throw the Warped Wheel Out, also in 1984.

Daddy's Home

Sir Cliff Richard, OBE (born Harry Rodger Webb on 14 October 1940) is an English singer, actor and businessman.

One of my all-time favorite singers. His career began in the late 50s well into the 2000s.
#2 UK, #23 US, #3 US Adult Contemporary

It Might Be You

Stephen Bishop (born 14 November 1951, San Diego, California) is an American singer and guitarist. He had a major hit in 1977 with the song "On and On"; his other hits include "Save It for a Rainy Day", "Everybody Needs Love" and "It Might Be You", the theme from the movie, Tootsie. He has also performed many movie themes, including the theme from National Lampoon's Animal House which he sang in falsetto. He also provided his talent to the theme song in the holiday movie, All I Want for Christmas.

The movie Tootsie was hilarious and I must have watched it several more times since 1982.
